The Hulken Rolling Tote Is Turning Everyday Errands Into a Fashion Statement

As a fashion content writer, I’m always intrigued in the moments an ordinary object becomes part of the fashion debate. One of the most unexpected examples this summer is the Hulken Rolling Tote, a giant wheeled bag that is fast becoming a fixture on the streets of New York.

The Hulken has become a strange new “It bag,” Vogue reports, with people using it for groceries, laundry, shopping, sports gear and even fashion work. Vogue pointed out the style on August 13, 2026.

A Bag Made for Real Life

What I liked about the Hulken is that it doesn’t appear to be a typical fashion bag. You don’t carry it on your shoulder or in your hand, you pull it behind you by its handles.

The design has five wheels that spin 360 degrees, two sets of handles, and a large interior. It can also fold flat, which makes storage easier when the bag isn’t in use.

This is where the Hulken gets fascinating for me, fashion wise. It combines utility with a distinctive design, demonstrating that a functional everyday object can also be fashionable.

Why is everybody talking about it?

Made of reflective polypropylene, the Hulken has a dazzling appearance and comes in a variety of colors. Silver, black, green, pink, and blue variations make the bag stand out from regular shopping totes.

Vogue reports that some New Yorkers are utilizing their Hulkens several times a week. One owner uses hers for grocery shopping and vintage shopping, another has three bags for groceries, sports gear and her son’s athletic equipment.

The backpack has also proved beneficial for those working in creative industries. Its enormous capacity is ideal for stylists, photographers, florists and vintage vendors to haul apparel and equipment.

One example that really struck me was vintage shop owner Lizzie Wheeler. In a Hulken she took 10 bridal outfits to a picture shoot on the metro.

From Functional Item to Fashion Trend

The Hulken was initially made out of practicality. The product was created by Alex Schinasi and Yoni Sheleg in 2018. As a musician, Sheleg wanted a better way to transport about big equipment in New York City, especially through subway stations and up stairs.

Today, however, the product has begun to approach the world of fashion. In 2024, Hulken partnered with streetwear label Supreme and later with accessories label Susan Alexandra to create ornate New York-inspired charms.

That growth is what makes the Hulken very interesting to me as a writer of fashion articles. Fashion isn’t always created on the runway. Sometimes, it starts with something that people simply find beneficial.

Search Interest Is Increasing

The pattern of the Hulken has also been observed in online searches. Vogue’s Google data shows searches for “Hulken” reached an all time high in 2026. Searches for “Hulken medium” climbed by 110% year over year and searches for “Hulken rolling tote” jumped by 90%.

The purse sells for between $100 to $125, depending on the style. The increasing popularity of the product has also led to comparable offerings from other sellers.

My Thoughts on the Trend

As an observer of worldwide fashion trends, I think the Hulken movement is an excellent illustration of how fashion is always changing. Now, they want more than just pretty accessories. They want products that fit their hectic lifestyles too.

The Hulken may not have the same luxurious cachet as a Birkin or other famous designer handbag, but that may be part of its attraction. It is practical, spacious, eye-catching and unusual.

The Hulken, to me, embodies a developing fashion idea: style doesn’t always have to come at the expense of practicality. And if it keeps catching on, this utilitarian rolling tote could be one of the most improbable fashion stories of the summer of 2026.
